NDDOT Starting Salary
- Transportation Engineer III: $7,243 / month
- Transportation Engineer II: $5,999 / month
- Transportation Engineer I: $5,403 / month
At the North Dakota Department of Transportation, we owe our success to our people and processes. As a Transportation Engineer in our Devils Lake District, you will manage small and medium construction projects and be the lead inspector on large projects. The ideal person for this position will be a problem solver with excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
You will manage construction projects, monitor contractor operations and assure project is built according to the plans and specs. You will also be responsible for designing projects and preparing plan documents for district designed projects.
Other duties include filling in for project engineer in their absence, preliminary surveys, bridge deck evaluations, construction survey and materials testing, as well as other miscellaneous job duties.
Minimum QualificationsTransportation Engineer III
To be considered as a Transportation Engineer III, you must have a bachelor s degree in engineering and four years of professional-level engineering work experience. You will need to have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Transportation Engineer II
To be considered as a Transportation Engineer II, you must have a bachelor s degree in civil engineering, or closely related degree, and two years of professional-level engineering work experience. In addition, you must have passed or have the ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Transportation Engineer I
To be considered as a Transportation Engineer I, you must have a bachelor s degree in civil engineering, or closely related degree.
- May 2026 graduates will be considered for the Transportation Engineer I level.
This position requires a class D driver s license for travel to various projects and required trainings.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and reference check.
