Location:

Altru Hospital | Devils Lake 1031 7th Street Northeast Devils Lake, ND 58301. Pay Range: $16.26 - $24.38.

Summary

The Hospital Admitting Specialist accurately schedules patient appointments and procedures, updates demographic and insurance information, completes pre‑registration during scheduling of discharge appointments, registers patients for admission, collects insurance co‑pay and procedural pre‑pays, and performs insurance verification. The role promotes positive public relations, remains customer‑focused, and ensures patients and families’ needs are met while collaborating with colleagues.

Essential Job Functions
  • Ensure strict confidentiality when handling patient charts, records, and scheduling information.
  • Accurately register patients into the EPIC system by collecting and recording demographic, insurance, financial, and clinical data.
  • Record and collect necessary patient account documents and collect self‑pay balances, pre‑payment amounts, and co‑pays as per guidelines.
  • Cover both Hospital Admitting registration desk, ER admitting desk, and Urgent check‑in desk; complete in‑room registration and scheduling.
  • Visit patient rooms to ensure all required registration documents are signed.
  • Create accounts for new patients and update accounts for existing patients for accurate services and account processing.
  • Interpret physician orders and referrals to determine service needs, schedule visits, and coordinate appointments with other departments.
  • Calculate patients’ co‑pays, deductibles, and co‑insurance; attempt to collect amounts from patients.
  • Activate and verify insurance coverage, obtain benefit information such as co‑payment and co‑insurance amounts.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with third‑party payer requirements for verification, authorizations/pre‑certifications, and related activities.
  • Review Medicare accounts for completed MSPQ.
  • Complete bed placement for admitted patients.
  • Modify work schedule to meet department goals and patient needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the department/organization.
Work Experience

Required:

A minimum of 1 year related experience.

Language Requirements

Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
