Mechanic, Trades ​/ Skilled Labor

• Perform complete engine repairs and overhauls.
• Perform engine tune‑ups (replace injectors, adjust valves, etc.).
• Perform drive train repairs (adjust, replace clutch, repair transmissions and differentials).
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic and air brake problems (valves, chambers, brake shoes, drum and lines).
• Diagnose and repair exhaust, cooling and AC systems.
• Repair chassis and suspension systems.
• Diagnose and repair electronic and electrical systems.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems.
• Order parts, restock parts, and organize. Keep track of and reorder hydraulic parts, cylinders, hose and fitting as needed.

• Perform major and minor welding repair on trucks and shop equipment.
• Weld and fabricate parts while operating shop equipment.
• Design and construct welding projects throughout the district.

• Engine repairs and tune‑ups.
• Drive train, chassis and suspension diagnostics and repairs.
• Brake overhauls and repairs.
• Diagnose and repair electronic and electrical problems.
• Repair heating and air conditioning problems.
• Install equipment on new vehicles.

• For Mechanic III: A Class B Driver License; completed a two‑year curriculum in automotive or diesel/industrial equipment technology, and 2 years of work experience performing similar duties.
• Three‑year master technology program and one year of work experience can substitute for the 2‑year curriculum and 2 years of experience.
• For Mechanic II:
  Minimum Class A permit by first day of employment; completed a two‑year curriculum.
• Within 12 months must take behind‑the‑wheel exam and obtain Class A driver’s license with air brakes and cargo‑tank endorsement.
• Mechanic I:
  High school diploma or GED and a valid Class D driver’s license.
• Work experience can substitute for education on a one‑year-for‑one‑year basis; military occupational specialties may be substituted (e.g., 91B, 2T3X1).
• Must provide required tools at date of hire; required tools list from district office.
• Position may require work after hours, weekends, holidays during emergencies; capability to handle traffic.
• Must be able to weld; may be required to plow snow.
• Emergency response required (report within 30 minutes in urgent situations). Outside district must arrange availability.
• Selection contingent upon interview, drug test, job function testing, reference check, driving records check.
