Summary Of Work

Looking for a career that offers variety and the opportunity to work both in the field and in the office? This unique position combines H2A housing inspections with Employment Advisor responsibilities, providing a dynamic and rewarding work experience. During H2A inspection season, you'll travel throughout a six-county region conducting housing inspections for agricultural employers to ensure temporary worker housing meets federal safety standards.

Throughout the year, you'll also provide Employment Advisor services, helping job seekers overcome barriers to employment, connect with workforce resources, and achieve their employment goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • H2A Housing Inspections
    - Conduct inspections of housing provided for temporary agricultural workers to ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Labor and OSHA housing standards. Coordinate inspection schedules with employers, document findings, communicate required corrections, and complete follow-up inspections and reporting. You will be traveling frequently, up to daily, during H2A season. A typical day in this role may look like driving to and between inspection sites, walking through farms and housing facilities, climbing stairs, and performing detailed inspections both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Employment Advisor
    - Provide individualized employment services to job seekers by assisting with resumes, interview preparation, job search strategies, career exploration, unemployment-related resources, and referrals to workforce programs. You'll also conduct outreach to Migrant and Seasonal Farm Workers, build relationships with employers and community partners, and maintain accurate program documentation.

This position reports directly to the Workforce Center Manager within the Devils Lake Workforce Center. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing independent field work with customer-focused office responsibilities. Because this is a small office, teamwork is essential. The ideal candidate is someone who is dependable, collaborative, and adaptable, with the ability to respond to changing priorities while maintaining a positive, customer-focused approach.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have the following:

  • At least 6 years of related work experience in customer service, employment services, case management, workforce development, inspections, compliance, agriculture or farm operations, or a closely related field.
    • Education in a relevant field can substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis
  • A valid, unexpired driver's license
  • Application must include all specified materials as listed under the Application Procedures
Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with experience conducting inspections or compliance reviews, interpreting regulations, workforce development or employment services, or agricultural operations. Employment Advisors possess a diverse set of skills to effectively support job seekers in their career development and job search efforts. The preferred candidate will have outstanding customer service skills, communication and listening skills, assessment skills, attention to detail, experience in group facilitation/presentation, and ability to work through various challenges and obstacles, as well as the ability to create a supportive and inclusive environment where all clients can feel valued and understood, regardless of their background, skillset, experiences, and perspectives.
