Salary:
Equipment Operator II – $4,840 per month;
Equipment Operator I – $4,289 per month;
Equipment Operator in Training – $4,075 per month.
- Perform highway, roadway, and structure maintenance, operating heavy equipment for basic snow and ice control/removal.
- Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining highway signs and guardrails.
- Operate power tools and other equipment to carry out maintenance duties.
- Keep roadways clear of hazards such as litter, debris, garbage, and carcasses.
- Complete building and ground maintenance duties, and general routine maintenance of the roadway and radio system equipment.
- Perform minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain necessary paperwork, including time records, activity reporting, daily diary, and road reports.
- Receive training and perform construction project duties under close supervision.
- Maintain a safe working environment for yourself, coworkers, and others.
- Respond to emergency events within 30 minutes, including after hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Valid North Dakota Class A driver license without air brake restrictions and a cargo tank endorsement (N) by the first day of work (for Equipment Operator II).
- Two years of relevant experience or one year of experience and one season of winter operations similar to NDDOT.
- Valid North Dakota Class B driver license without air brake restrictions (for Equipment Operator I).
- For Equipment Operator in Training: valid North Dakota Class A driver permit without air brake restrictions and a cargo tank endorsement (N) by the first day of work; must obtain a North Dakota Class A driver license and cargo‑tank endorsement within 12 months.
- Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) reflecting the required abilities may be substituted for the required work experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Relevant MOS codes include Truck Driver (88M), Horizontal Construction Engineer (12N), and Pavements & Construction (3E2X1).
Position requires reporting to work within 30 minutes during emergency events, after hours, on weekends, and on holidays. Successful candidate will be required to pass interview process, drug test, job function screening, reference check, driver record check, and federal clearinghouse query screening.
