Equipment Operator I / Equipment Operator II (Equipment Operator in Training considered).

The North Dakota Department of Transportation seeks a dedicated Equipment Operator to perform highway, roadway, and structure maintenance, including heavy equipment operation for snow and ice control, installation and repair of highway signs and guardrails, and general maintenance duties to keep roadways clear of hazards.

• Operate heavy equipment for roadway and structure maintenance.
• Control snow and ice removal and perform basic maintenance tasks.
• Assist in installation, repair, and maintenance of highway signs and guardrails.
• Operate power tools and equipment for routine maintenance.
• Keep roadways free of litter, debris, and other hazards.
• Perform minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain necessary paperwork, including time records and road reports.
• Receive training for construction project duties and perform under supervision.
• Report to work within 30 minutes after hours, on weekends, and on holidays during emergencies.

• Valid North Dakota Class A driver license with air brake restriction‑free and cargo tank endorsement (N) by first day of work for Equipment Operator II.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience or 1 year of experience plus one winter season for Equipment Operator II.
• Valid North Dakota Class B driver license without air brake restrictions for Equipment Operator I.
• Valid North Dakota Class A driver permit with cargo tank endorsement (N) for Equipment Operator in Training; 12 months to obtain full license.
• Agricultural MOS acceptable as substitution for experience (e.g., 88M, 12N, 3E2X1).
• Ability to travel within 30 minutes to work sites.
