Positions Field Supervisor
Primary
Purpose:
Assure the constant flow of workers and materials. Plan work far enough in advance so that the proper trades, tools, and equipment will be on the job when they are required.
Typical Duties: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in one or more occupations. Studies production schedules and estimated worker‑hour requirements for completion of job assignments. Interprets company policies for workers and enforces safety regulations. Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of the capacities of machines and equipment.
Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality and suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of shop, department, or work crew. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
May train new workers. Maintains time and production records. May estimate, requisition, and inspect materials. May confer with other Supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments. May confer with workers’ representatives to resolve grievances. May set up machines and equipment. When supervising workers engaged chiefly in one occupation or craft, are required to be adept in the activities of the workers supervised.
When supervising workers engaged in several occupations, one is required to poses general knowledge of the activities involved.
Essential Duties: All duties, except those described as occasional, miscellaneous, or incidental are imperative duties of the position.
Requirements: Field Supervisor should be able to:
Read blueprints skillfully; run surveying equipment (transit/level); schedule jobs (read schedules, prepare short interval schedules, bar charts); follow instructions and meet administrative standards; work within precise limits or standards of accuracy; rate information using standards which can be measured or checked; compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects; look at flat drawings or pictures and understand how they would look as solid objects;
use logical step‑by‑step procedures in work; plan work and solve problems, and make decisions based on measurable information. Physically field supervisors must be able to see well (either naturally or with corrections; coordinate the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers; use hands, arms, and fingers fully; climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or work at heights as required and lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

Purpose:
Smooths and finishes surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures, using hand tools or power tools including floats, trowels, and screeds.
Typical Duties: Spreads concrete to a specified depth and workable consistency, using float to bring water to the surface and produce a soft topping. Levels, smooths, and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete, using straightedge and float or power screed. Finishes concrete surfaces, using a power trowel, or wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish. Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces, using a power grinder or chisel and hammer, and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
Molds expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge. May sprinkle colored stone chips, powered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce the prescribed finish. May produce rough concrete surface, using a broom. May mix concrete, using a hoe or concrete‑mixing machine. May direct subgrade work, mixing of concrete, and setting forms. May specialize in finishing steps and stairways.
Also, performs all duties as General Laborer, Skilled Laborer, and Carpenter.
