and Salary Details

NDDOT Equipment Operator II Salary: $4,840 / month

NDDOT Equipment Operator I Salary: $4,289 / month

Filling this position as an Equipment Operator in Training may be considered if unable to fill as an Operator I or Operator II. The salary would be $4,075 / month.

Winter hours for this position are 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. from November through April. Shift differential schedules will be established by the district weekly and will include a $2.00 per hour shift differential.

Responsibilities
  • Perform highway, roadway, and structure maintenance, operating heavy equipment to complete required tasks (including basic snow and ice control/removal).
  • Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining highway signs and guardrails; operate power tools and other equipment as needed for maintenance duties.
  • Maintain roadways by clearing hazards such as litter, waste, debris, garbage, and carcasses.
  • Conduct building and grounds maintenance and general routine maintenance of roadway and radio system equipment.
  • Perform minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain necessary paperwork, including time records, activity reports, daily diaries, road reports, etc.
  • Receive training and perform construction project duties under close supervision.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for yourself, coworkers, and others.
Qualifications
  • Equipment Operator II:
    Valid North Dakota Class A driver license without air brake restrictions and a cargo tank endorsement (N) by the first day of work; two years of relevant experience or one year of experience plus one season of winter operations similar to NDDOT.
  • Equipment Operator I:
    Valid North Dakota Class B driver license without air brake restrictions.
  • If a candidate with preferred experience isn’t available, consider filling as Equipment Operator in Training, which requires a valid North Dakota Class A driver permit without air brake restrictions and a cargo tank endorsement (N) by the first day of work. The employee will have 12 months to obtain a North Dakota Class A driver license without air brake restrictions and a cargo-tank endorsement (N).
  • Must be willing to report to work within 30 minutes, after hours, on weekends, and on holidays during emergency events.
