Job Summary

The Dickinson High School Band is seeking a passionate and skilled Color Guard Instructor to work with our high school band program. The instructor will be responsible for training and developing students in color guard techniques, choreography, and performance skills while fostering a positive and disciplined team environment. The marching band has advanced to the UIL 6A State Marching Contest for the previous 4 seasons and has been named a Bands of America regional finalist 3 times in the previous 2 seasons.

Additionally, the varsity winter guard advanced to the TCGC State Competition in Scholastic A this season.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instruct and choreograph for fall marching band and winter guard seasons.
  • Teach 6th and 7th period guard classes for the fall and spring semesters.
  • Assist DHS Fine Arts Faculty as needed 1st-5th periods.
  • Instruct students in flag, rifle, sabre, and dance techniques.
  • Collaborate with the band staff to align musical and visual elements of the marching band show.
  • Attend all football games, marching band competitions, all varsity and junior varsity winter guard competitions, rehearsals, and class periods.
  • Coordinate tech staff.
  • Promote personal development, teamwork, accountability, and a strong work ethic among students.
  • Plan and schedule rehearsals and competitions for spring winter guard season (TCGC, WGI, local performances).
  • Assist with equipment inventory, maintenance, and organization.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Campus principal or Fine Arts Director.
Qualifications
  • Experience in color guard performance (high school, collegiate, and/or independent groups).
  • Prior teaching experience preferred, but not required.
  • Strong technical knowledge relevant to color guard and dance (flag, rifle, sabre, choreography).
  • Ability to choreograph routines appropriate for varying skill levels.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends.
  • Familiarity with UIL and TCGC/WGI rules and standards.
Compensation

$60,000 plus DISD benefits
