Director of Career and Technical Education & Career Readiness
Starting Date: Jul 1, 2026
Position SummaryDirect and manage the district Career and Technical Education program and facilities to meet the needs of students. Serve as an instructional leader in the development and improvement of instructional programs.
Qualifications- Master’s degree
- Certifications:
Certified Appraiser R for the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T‑TESS) and teacher certification by the State Board for Educator Certification - Five (5) years of administrative experience in Texas public schools (Principal experience preferred)
- Special knowledge and skills: working knowledge of federal and state code governing Career and Technical Education; ability to manage budget and personnel; coordinate district functions; implement policy and procedures; interpret data; strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Public and community relations: oversee development of CTE instructional programs; ensure curricular documents, instructional support materials, student assessment instruments, and admission criteria are in place; maintain continuous curriculum renewal; identify and define local job opportunities; recruit employers; provide career exploration resources; evaluate program effectiveness based on data; ensure student progress is evaluated.
- Student management: implement student-management policies and enforce the Student Code of Conduct and handbook; maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, teachers, business partners, and community members.
- Policy, reports, and law: implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy; compile, maintain, file, and present reports.
- Budget and inventory: develop and administer a budget; maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; approve purchase orders; prepare and revise job descriptions; develop training plans; select, train, supervise, evaluate staff; make recommendations for retention, discipline, dismissal.
- Facility management: ensure CTE facilities and equipment are available and in optimal condition; conduct inspections of the DISD Agricultural Facility; conduct meetings with parents, students, teachers; maintain relationship with Facilities service.
- Communication and community support: assist students, parents, and teachers with career, college, and scholarship information; encourage community and parent involvement.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of all CTE personnel.
- Tools: standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals.
- Posture: prolonged sitting, occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting.
- Motion: repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding, use of mouse; occasional reading.
- Lifting: occasional lifting and carrying (less than 45 pounds).
- Environment: frequent district-wide travel; occasional statewide travel and evening/weekend/holiday hours required.
- Mental demands: work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
- Performance evaluated annually.
