- Efficiently and safely maintain a high level of care and cleanliness of school buildings and surroundings
- High School diploma or G.E.D. (preferred)
- Valid Texas Driver's License or Texas
- Able to read, write, and speak English
- Be in good physical condition
- Possess basic mechanical skills with good oral and written communication skills
- Sound reasoning in the interpretation of responsibilities and in dealing with students, staff and the public
- Able to follow instructions given
- Able to work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls
- Follow directives of supervisor(s)
- Work independently, with or without supervision, with others, and as part of a team
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
- Prior experience in the operations of cleaning and custodial equipment
- Exhibit evidence of being a team member, tempered with good public relations
- Able to make quick, sound decisions to act upon them on behalf of the interest of the school
- Receive and utilize training, to daily perform routine custodial tasks regardless of assignment or site and to practice general safety, security, and custodial procedures during the performance of the job
- Comply with district policies and procedures
- Maintain good attendance and safety
- Operate and maintain all types of custodial related mechanical equipment
- Perform routine custodial tasks as a working custodian
- Responsible for performing work in a neat, orderly, and timely manner that ensures school buildings are clean and ready for the beginning of each school day and are clean and ready for the first workday that teachers are required to return to work and before the first day that students are required to attend classes at the beginning of each school year
- Assemble furniture, install light bulbs, pencil sharpeners and dispensers, unstop commodes/urinals, and other mechanical tasks that do not require the use of a drill
- Adaptable to and willing to work a flexible work schedule at any site, during any shift, and perform any cleaning assignment according to the needs of the district
- Able to learn new techniques and adaptable to repetitive cleaning tasks throughout the workday
- Perform all other duties assigned

Physical Demands- Must be able to perform multiple and repetitive tasks
- Standing tolerance of up to 7 hours
- Sustained walking tolerance of up to .25 miles
- Sustained kneeling tolerance up to 10 minutes
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills
- Repetitive forward reaching
- Repetitive overhead reaching, sustained tolerance up to 3 minutes
- Repetitive forward bending
- Repetitive stooping, sustained tolerance up to 10 minutes
- Ability to climb stairs and to lift and carry 50 pounds from a minimum height of 8" to knuckle height and carry it
This job is performed 90% indoors with the remaining 10% of job duties performed outdoors maintaining surrounding grounds. Indoor duties are performed in a thermostatically controlled climate and the duties are subject to seasonal conditions. Noise levels are low and present no risk of hearing disorders, and exposure to vibration is moderate during the use of floor machines. Lighting indoors is provided by recessed overhead fluorescent fixtures with glare screen coverings.
The walking surface indoors is level concrete floor covered with linoleum tile in foyer areas, cafeteria, and restrooms. Tight knap carpet is installed in most reaching areas and office space with ample padding. The outdoor walking surface is natural (grave/rocks) and exposed concrete sidewalks. Safety shoes are not required, however, it is required that shoes with a non-skid sole be worn.
Exposure to fumes is moderate with the use of some cleaning chemicals and the dissipation of fumes is controlled with the building ventilation system. Chemical hazards are moderate, however, rubber gloves, face shield or other personal protective equipment are required while using chemicals.
