Labor and delivery experience, including the ability to labor and recover the mother as well as receive and transition the newborn, including assessment. Experience with shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and other potential OB emergencies preferred. Advanced skills in fetal monitoring education and experience with inductions (Pitocin, Cervidil).
Description:
Charge experience is required. The unit has 9 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) beds, 1 Observation bed, 4 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds, and 1 Operating Room suite. Patient ratios are 1:1 for active labors, inductions, and C-sections, and 1:3 for couplet care. Newborn ratios are 1:1 until stable, and 1:3 for intermediate care in the NICU, where 2 NICU nurses must be present in the unit.
There are no techs or unit secretaries available on the unit. Equipment used includes central monitoring systems, IV pumps, infant warmers, telemedicine robots for neonatologists, bili-blankets, and PCA pumps. The documentation system used is Meditech and Central Patient Network. This is a full-time role requiring 3 shifts per week, with rotating weekends and holidays. Staff may be required to float to other units within the facility as needed.
Daily rounding on all patients and safety rounding is required for patient experience. The unit performs procedures such as C-sections, circumcisions, intra-uterine monitoring, and vacuum or forceps-assisted deliveries. The department has seasoned RNs with approximately 30 years of experience each, serving as great resources and preceptors. The team is experienced, competent, and works well together, providing a supportive environment. This Labor and Delivery unit offers a valuable opportunity to gain experience in labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care.
