Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Ability to report for work on time and perform job duties
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills with employees and the public
- Good judgment while performing job‑related tasks
- Valid driver’s license
- Pre‑employment and random drug testing
- Background check: TBI/FBI/DCS
- CPR and First Aid training
Assists in monitoring students during transportation to/from school, ensuring a safe and orderly environment. Ability to drive to various locations for daily assignments.
Terms of EmploymentPart‑time position; work 10 months and on days when children attend school; no benefits; hourly rate set by the Board of Education.
DefinitionThe bus attendant assists regular education, special education, and pre‑school students in boarding and exiting school buses, providing safety during transport. Work 5 days a week, 4‑5 hours per day depending on route duration. Reports directly to the Transportation Director. Requires a happy, helpful attitude; punctuality; cooperativeness with the bus driver; protection of confidentiality; appropriate grammar; support safety and self‑esteem. Experience with regular and special‑needs children is helpful but not required.
Physical examination and TB skin test required. Universal precautions for exposure to bodily fluids.
Job Location
The employee works on school bus routes and may be exposed to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and bodily fluids requiring universal precautions.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential FunctionsWork involves frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress. Physical demands include: prolonged sitting; bending, stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting; frequent walking and reaching; heavy lifting (45+ lbs). Environmental factors: exposure to sun, heat, cold, inclement weather, noise, vehicle fumes; biological hazards; irregular or prolonged hours.
Tools / Equipment Used- Specialized and adaptive equipment for students.
