Qualifications- High School Diploma
- Five years of daily operations experience in school transportation and student safety
- Strong computer skills
- Valid Tennessee driver’s license
- Must be 25 years old with a clean driving record
- Strong knowledge of Tennessee and federal law as it pertains to student transportation
- Familiarity with vehicle maintenance equipment
- Ability to make timely decisions in high‑pressure situations
- Positive communication skills
- Ability to obtain a CDL with a P & S endorsement within 60 days of employment
- Ability to assist in the supervision of transportation employees
- Knowledge of transportation routing software preferred
The Transportation Operations Supervisor assists in the planning, directing, and supervising the district’s student transportation program in compliance with Tennessee state law, State Board of Education rules, and Tennessee Department of Education pupil transportation standards. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and cost‑effective transportation of students to and from school and school‑sponsored activities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Assist in coordinating annual bus inspections in compliance with Tennessee Highway Patrol requirements.
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating school bus drivers and transportation staff.
- Assist with dispatching and radio communication.
- Assist in developing and maintaining bus routes for regular, special education, and any extra routes needed.
- Assist with ensuring routes meet Tennessee’s maximum ride‑time and safety recommendations when applicable.
- Assist with special education IEP requirements.
- Assist with the organization of field trips, athletic events, and extracurricular activities.
- Assist with scheduling substitute drivers.
- Assist in preparing and monitoring the transportation department budget.
- Assist in maintaining records required for Tennessee transportation reports.
- Assist in supporting audits and documentation requests from state agencies.
- Assist the Director with transportation emergency plans, including severe weather procedures common in Tennessee.
- Participate in district safety planning and crisis response efforts.
- Assist with preparing new boundary and zoning plans for the system in the transportation software.
A combination of office and transportation facility environments. Early mornings, occasional evenings, and emergency response availability required. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
Physical requirements:
Medium‑to‑heavy workload.
