Job Summary

Tellers are responsible for providing exceptional customer service, including efficient and accurate transaction processing and helping with account-related inquiries.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine tasks such as making deposits, withdrawals, transfers, cash advances, receiving loan payments, cashing checks, issuing savings withdrawals, and recording night and mail deposits.
  • Maintain and balance a cash drawer daily, accounting for all cash; turn excess cash and mutilated currency to the vault.
  • Enter customer transactions into the computer system, issue receipts, and record accurate records.
  • Sell cashier’s checks and answer questions in person or by telephone, referring customers to other bank services as necessary.
  • Complete special requests: closing accounts, taking orders for checks, exchanging foreign currencies, assisting customers with safe deposit boxes, providing statements, preparing cash orders for merchants, completing stop payments, and blocking/reordering debit cards.
  • Place holds on accounts for new accounts, large deposits, or exceptional items.
  • Prepare outgoing domestic and foreign wires.
  • Comply with bank operations and security procedures: participate in all dual‑control functions, audit other tellers’ currency, and assist in the certification of proof.
  • Maintain customer confidence by keeping information confidential.
  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations via online compliance training.
  • Promote strong customer/client interactions, build relationships, cross‑sell, and offer new products/services.
  • Make good risk‑management decisions, applying fraud prevention and robbery guidelines.
  • Travel to other branch locations to assist with coverage when needed.
  • Participate in qualifying CRA activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Ability
  • Excellent customer service skills. Attentive, good retention of information, tact, and diplomacy with customers and employees.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Detail‑oriented, with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Competent with computers, telephone, 10‑key calculator, office machinery, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage pressure as needed.
Work Environment

Professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Noise level is moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Physical Demands

Requires frequent standing, using hands to handle or feel objects, reaching with hands and arms, speaking and hearing. Occasional walking and sitting. Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 10 lbs and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Requires close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Education and Experience

High‑school diploma or GED equivalent required. At least two (2) years of experience in bank operations, new accounts, or credit assistant/loan positions.
