About The Position

The Office of Central Services is seeking a Master Plumber, grade G‑23, in the Facilities Operation and Management Division. This supervisory and technical role ensures compliance with County ordinances and regulations governing the installation and operation of plumbing systems and equipment in County facilities, including the Department of Corrections, the Office of the Sheriff, and the Prince George’s Police Department. This is an essential position.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect new and existing plumbing equipment for conformance with safety standards, laws, and ordinances.
  • Supervise crews of plumbers and trade helpers on maintenance, repair, and installation of plumbing, gas, and HVAC systems.
  • Prepare estimates for projects, determining time and materials required.
  • Maintain records of work performed and develop periodic summaries.
  • Review, approve, or recommend plumbing plans and work, and inspect completed workmanship to verify compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Procure material and equipment needed for plumbing work.
  • Prepare all plumbing permit applications and secure appropriate permits.
  • Perform any additional tasks within the occupation’s general scope that may not be listed in this description.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of a standard high school or vocational course.
  • Significant experience in construction and installation jobs.
  • Possession of a Master Plumber's License.
  • Valid driver’s license with no more than six points.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of methods and practices involved in constructing, installing, maintaining, and operating plumbing systems, equipment, and appliances.
  • Knowledge of applicable plumbing codes.
  • Ability to understand and work from blueprints, drawings, and diagrams.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying objects weighing 45 pounds or more, and operating cranes, trucks, tractors, and other motor vehicles and equipment.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must possess a Master Plumber's License.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with no more than six points.
  • Must respond to emergency service calls on a 24‑hour basis.
  • Must work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate required proficiency.
  • Must wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment.
  • Must successfully pass pre‑employment checks (reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings).
  • Must act as an essential employee, reporting or remaining at work during emergencies or when other County employees are on administrative leave.
