-G grade G23 position, in the Facilities Operation and Management Division.

About the Position
Prince George's County Office of Central Services is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Master Plumber, grade G-23, within its Facilities Operation and Management Division. This is supervisory and administrative level skilled technical work in securing compliance with County ordinances and regulations governing the installation and operation of plumbing systems and equipment within County, including the Department of Corrections, the Office of the Sheriff and the Prince George's Police Department.
This is an essential position. Individuals in this position normally work independently on field inspections, making decisions requiring the use of technical judgment and discretion. The employee must be available on a twenty-four (24) hour basis to receive and respond to emergency service calls.
Examples of Work
- Inspects new and existing plumbing equipment in public and other buildings for conformance with safety standards, laws and ordinances.
- Supervises the work of crews composed of plumbers and trades helpers involved in the maintenance, repair and installation of plumbing, gas and HVAC systems at County facilities.
- Makes estimates for specific jobs to determine the amount of time and materials needed to complete project.
- Maintains records of work performed and develops periodic summaries from such records.
- Reviews, approves and/or recommends plumbing plans and work. Inspects existing or completed workmanship to verify that all constructing, installations, and maintenance comply with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulatory standards.
- Procures material and equipment needed to perform plumbing work.
- Prepares all plumbing permit applications and secures appropriate permits for plumbing work.
- Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:
- Completion of a standard high school or vocational course.
- Considerable experience working a variety of construction and installation jobs.
- Possession of a Master Plumber's License.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with no more than six (6) points.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered. Please note there is no equivalency for required certifications/licenses.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the methods and practices involved in constructing, installing, maintaining and operating a variety of plumbing installation, equipment and appliances.
- Knowledge of pertinent plumbing codes.
- Ability to understand and work from blueprints, drawings and diagrams.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying objects weighing 45 pounds or more; pulling, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending, and climbing; and safely operating cranes, trucks, tractors, and other motor vehicles and equipment.
