About the Position

Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, grade G‑23, within the Facilities Operation and Management Division. This essential supervisory role oversees skilled craft, labor, and trades personnel engaged in new construction, installation, repair, renovation, and maintenance of mechanical and non‑mechanical construction projects across various county facilities, including the correctional facility.

Examples of Work
  • Plans, supervises, and evaluates the work of skilled trades personnel in the repair, renovations, and preventive maintenance of various county owned and leased facilities.
  • Determines priorities, manpower requirements, materials, and equipment needed for operating/maintaining county buildings in proper state of repair.
  • Conducts past performance appraisals, provides constructive counseling, guidance, training, and progressive discipline.
  • Monitors performance of contracted vendors in the repair, maintenance, and installation services in accordance with established specifications.
  • Confers and coordinates with building occupants, contractors, engineers, inspectors, and other county agencies to explain, clarify, and resolve construction/maintenance service issues.
  • Plans, estimates, inspects, and renders reports of in‑house renovations, new installations and maintenance.
  • Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description but are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class for work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High‑school graduation or successful completion of an apprenticeship program in one or more skilled trades.
  • Five years of work experience in one or more skilled trades, including the installation, maintenance, and repair of the specific equipment involved.
  • Two of those years must have been at the supervisory lead capacity.
  • Eligibility for any specific license(s) required for the position.
  • Valid driver’s license with no more than six points.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master Electrician’s License.
  • Master Plumber’s License.
  • Master Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician’s License.
  • Maryland Stationary Engineer’s License (Grade First, Second or Third Class).
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying objects weighing 45 pounds or more; pulling, pushing, reaching, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending, and climbing; and safely operating cranes, trucks, tractors, and other motor vehicles and equipment.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with no more than six points.
  • Must be willing to respond to emergency service calls on a 24‑hour basis to assist other trade positions.
  • Must meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  • Must wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Must successfully pass pre‑employment checks, which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable.
  • Must be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. This position is essential; essential employees are expected to report during standard or non‑standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies.
