Role Description

The Digital Arts Instructor is a contract, on-site role based at Five Towns College in Dix Hills, NY. The instructor will design and deliver engaging coursework in digital arts, including subjects such as digital illustration, graphic design, animation, and multimedia production. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, teaching classes, demonstrating software and tools, supervising studio work, assessing student performance, and providing constructive feedback.

The role also involves maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry practices, integrating current technologies into the curriculum, and supporting students in building professional portfolios. The instructor will collaborate with colleagues to align courses with program goals and contribute to a positive, inclusive classroom environment.

Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess strong digital arts and design skills, such as proficiency in digital illustration, graphic design, animation, and visual storytelling.
  • Candidates should possess technical skills in industry-standard software and tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, digital painting and drawing applications, video and motion graphics tools).
  • Candidates should possess instructional and curriculum development skills, including lesson planning, course design, classroom management, and assessment of student work.
  • Candidates should possess communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly, provide supportive feedback, and work effectively with diverse learners and faculty colleagues.
  • Candidates should possess professional and organizational skills, such as time management, project coordination, and the ability to keep course materials and student records organized.
  • Relevant teaching experience in higher education or comparable educational settings is highly beneficial.
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in digital arts, graphic design, animation, media arts, or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Experience with portfolio development, knowledge of current industry trends, and a commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices are advantageous.
