The City of Dixon Fire Department is recruiting to fill one vacancy and establish an eligibility list for future needs for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic.
The Dixon Fire Department offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for qualified applicants pursuing a career in fire safety. The position performs firefighting, rescue, emergency medical care, fire prevention, equipment operation, and equipment maintenance activities to protect life and property; assumes primary responsibility for patient care at the scene of a medical emergency; and performs other related duties normally associated with the position of professional Firefighter/Paramedic.
Work involves irregular hours during the day and evenings, and on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
To be considered eligible for this hiring and eligibility list, you must meet the following criteria:
- Pass the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Entry Level Firefighter Written Exam and be placed on the FCTC Statewide Eligibility List.
- Possess a current, valid Cal-JAC CPAT Card issued within 9/13/25 - 9/13/26.
- Possess a valid Firefighter 1 Certificate.
- Submit all licenses, certificates, and other requirements listed under the "Ideal Candidate" section at the time of your application.

Those selected may be subject to a medical exam including drug screen; background investigation; DOJ fingerprint clearance; and in accordance with Federal Law, are able to provide proof of identity and proof that they may legally work in the United States. It is the policy of the City of Dixon to practice fair and equal employment under the law.
Candidates hired may be subject to an academy program assessment at the Chief's discretion.

IDEAL CANDIDATE Knowledge and AbilitiesKnowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of paramedic-level emergency medical care; applicable state and local laws, codes, regulations, and policies pertaining to paramedic-level emergency medical care; elementary physics, chemistry and mechanics; fire suppression and rescue equipment, tools and devices, and their proper use and maintenance requirements; of modern fire prevention and fire suppression methods, principles, practices and procedures; of work hazards and safety precautions associated with the work;
and of first aid and CPR.
Ability to learn the geography of the local area including the location of hydrants, mains, and major fire hazards; to understand and act in accordance with departmental policies and rules; to demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude as required in the operation and maintenance of firefighting and rescue equipment; to learn first aid principles and apply them, to learn technical firefighting principles and techniques and principles of hydraulics applied to fire suppression.
Ability to keep simple records and prepare reports, to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

EducationEquivalent to completion of the 12th grade. Related college level training is desirable.
Experience for Entry-Level/Non-Lateral ApplicantsSome work experience performing firefighting and/or paramedic services is desirable. Successful completion of an eighteen-month probation period as a Dixon Volunteer Firefighter is highly desirable.
Experience for Lateral ApplicantsOne year of Full-Time paid experience or completion of probation with your current agency.
