Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to lead our Special Education department at the district level. This role is crucial in ensuring that all students with disabilities receive a high-quality education tailored to their individual needs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive education, possess excellent leadership skills, and have a deep understanding of special education laws and best practices.

This position is based at the Central Office and involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including educators, parents, and community partners.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the district s special education programs and services in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and support staff to ensure the effective delivery of special education services.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and ensure that they are implemented effectively.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of special education programs and services, making data-driven decisions for improvements.
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills in working with students with disabilities.
  • Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities and promote inclusive practices across the district.
  • Liaise with parents, guardians, and community organizations to foster partnerships that support student success.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations regarding special education, including IDEA and Section 504.
  • Manage the special education budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to meet the needs of students.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for the school board and other stakeholders regarding special education initiatives and outcomes.
  • Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in special education and disseminate this information to staff.
Requirements
  • Director of Special Education Certification
  • Valid state certification in Special Education or Educational Leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team of educators and support staff.
  • Experience in developing and implementing professional development programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Proficiency in using technology and data management systems related to special education.

Pay is based on 240 days. Plus a 16% index and a $10,000 stipend.
