The Illinois General Assembly is the legislative body of the State of Illinois and consists of two chambers: the Illinois House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate. The 37th Legislative District, represented by Republican State Senator Li Arellano, Jr., includes part or all of twelve counties in northwest Illinois:
Lee, Whiteside, DeKalb, LaSalle, Rock Island, Ogle, Henry, Peoria, Bureau, Stark, Marshall, and Woodford.
The District Director is a full-time role based in Dixon, IL, responsible for managing the daily operations of a legislative district office. This role oversees constituent services, including responding to inquiries, resolving concerns, and connecting residents with state resources and agencies. The District Director coordinates local outreach efforts, such as community meetings, events, and stakeholder engagement, to ensure the elected member is informed about district priorities.
This position manages office workflows, supervises staff or interns as assigned, and maintains accurate records, schedules, and communications. The District Director also prepares briefings, drafts correspondence, and supports the legislator’s district-based legislative and policy initiatives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft correspondence and explain complex information to the public--with preference for bilingual English/Spanish skills.
- Experience in community outreach, constituent services, or public engagement, preferably in a governmental, nonprofit, or public affairs setting.
- Organizational and administrative skills, including managing calendars, records, and multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse communities, stakeholders, and government agencies in a professional and respectful manner.
- Problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities to assess constituent issues and identify appropriate resources or solutions.
- Familiarity with state or local government processes, legislative procedures, or public policy is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with office software, email, and basic data management tools; ability to learn new systems as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, communications, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Ability to work on-site in Dixon, IL, including occasional evenings or weekends for events or community meetings.
Salary range: $40,000 to $75,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
