Job Summary
As the Manufacturing Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading a manufacturing team and overseeing daily operations and production processes for the facility in Dixon, IL. The role includes hiring, training, motivating employees, driving continuous improvement, ensuring a safe environment, and prioritizing quality, inventory and financial targets.
Job Responsibilities- Provide leadership and guidance to the manufacturing team, ensuring productivity, collaboration and a positive working environment.
- Foster open communication and promote a culture of trust and engagement, embodying SPX core values.
- Partner in recruitment by promoting open opportunities and participating in hiring, selection and onboarding.
- Support employee training and development by identifying needs, developing plans and providing coaching.
- Coach and lead performance discussions, delivering corrective actions when necessary.
- Organize workflow by setting objectives, preparing schedules and communicating progress.
- Serve as point of contact for employee concerns and grievances and address them proactively with HR.
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment, enforce guidelines, conduct inspections and address issues immediately.
- Ensure tools and equipment are functional and safe to use.
- Assist in investigations of safety concerns.
- Oversee cleanliness and organization of the manufacturing area.
- Champion safety, encouraging risk identification and collaborative resolution.
- Collaborate with production planning and logistics to prioritize schedules, monitor progress and ensure on‑time delivery.
- Implement and monitor quality control procedures and standards to ensure high‑quality products.
- Conduct inspections and partner with quality team to resolve issues promptly.
- Optimize inventory management to support production and maintain accurate records.
- Estimate accurate hour requirements for task completion.
- Ensure labor goals are met daily, including direct and indirect labor.
- Manage scrap within the assigned area to meet fiscal goals.
- Ensure all SOPs are followed.
- Use ERP and other technology to prepare reports for planning, monitoring, issue identification and improvement.
- Maintain accurate records (production reports, inventory data, safety logs, employee performance, time & attendance).
- Create KPI reports.
- Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency, equipment performance, quality, reduce cost and optimize operations.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles.
- Participate in projects aligned with departmental and organizational goals.
- At least 2 years of supervisory/leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
Skills and Abilities
- 5 years of supervisory/leadership experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience attracting, retaining, motivating and developing high‑performing, diverse teams.
- Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including assembly, welding/machining and quality control.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing principles.
- Proficiency using manufacturing software and systems for inventory management and production planning, including ERP.
- Knowledge of the HVAC industry.
- Ability to build effective partnerships with leaders.
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to motivate others, supervise and train hourly manufacturing employees.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Skills in Microsoft Office software.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Onsite.
- Plant environment; may be exposed to bad weather, excessive heat and/or noise.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Bending/stooping.
- Frequent movement around the manufacturing facility.
The estimated salary range for this position is $70,500 – $93,400. Compensation is tailored within this range based on organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic zone, and the candidate’s experience, education and performance. This position is eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus, subject to the plan’s governing rules.
