Job Title: TIG Welder
Job Description
This role focuses on high-quality TIG welding on a variety of thin-gauge metals in a production environment that operates like a job shop. You will perform precise welds with no leaks, work on complex weldments and piping, and contribute to a wide range of challenging projects that require strong technical skills, attention to detail, and versatility.
ResponsibilitiesPerform TIG welding on a variety of materials, including sheet metal, carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, copper, and thin-gauge metals, ensuring leak-free welds and exceptional appearance.
Complete weldments with a high level of precision and visual quality, maintaining consistent bead appearance and structural integrity.
Perform inter-piping work, including fitting, aligning, and adjusting components to achieve proper fit-up and alignment before welding.
Operate hand-welding and flame-cutting equipment, such as oxy-acetylene torches, to cut, prepare, and modify materials as required for each job.
Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to identify welding measurements, positions, joint configurations, and sequence of operations.
Troubleshoot product and weld issues with assistance, identifying root causes and making appropriate adjustments to techniques, settings, or materials.
Monitor welding equipment operation to ensure proper heat settings, weld tip condition, and overall machine performance, making adjustments as needed.
Perform preventative maintenance on welding machines and related equipment to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime.
Use a variety of air and electric hand tools for grinding, fitting, finishing, and general fabrication tasks.
Assist in training Welder I and Welder II team members by sharing best practices, demonstrating proper techniques, and providing guidance on quality standards.
Perform leak tests on completed welds and assemblies to verify integrity and compliance with specifications.
Operate cranes and forklifts safely to move materials, parts, and assemblies within the weld and fabrication areas.
Ensure consistent compliance with safety protocols by wearing required personal protective equipment, including protective glasses, gloves, masks, ear plugs, and boots.
Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area, including proper storage of tools, materials, and equipment.
Support both weld and assembly operations as needed and, once trained, perform laser weld pan work.
Work flexibly across coil and sheet metal weld areas, adapting to different setups, fixtures, and project requirements.
Contribute to a collaborative team environment by communicating effectively, supporting coworkers, and adapting to changing workloads and priorities.
Approximately 3 years of TIG welding experience, which may include a combination of hands-on work and vocational or technical schooling, with a strong emphasis on demonstrated weld skill and quality.
Proficiency in TIG welding on thin-gauge metals, including sheet metal and coil materials, with the ability to control heat input and prevent warping or burn-through.
Experience welding carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless steel using TIG, MIG, and arc welding processes.
Strong pipe welding skills, including experience with methods used to join pipes using arc, MIG, and TIG welding techniques.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings, including dimensions, weld symbols, and tolerances, to determine weld locations and orientation.
Hands-on experience in a weld shop environment, including fitting, fabrication, and assembly of welded components.
Skill in torch cutting using oxy-acetylene or similar flame-cutting equipment for material preparation and modification.
Capability to operate and monitor welding equipment, set appropriate parameters, and make adjustments to achieve proper penetration, bead profile, and overall weld quality.
Ability to perform preventative maintenance on welding machines and related equipment to ensure consistent performance.
Experience using a variety of air and electric hand tools for grinding, cutting, finishing, and fabrication tasks.
Ability to operate cranes and forklifts safely and effectively in a fabrication or weld shop environment.
Commitment to following safety procedures and consistently using required personal protective equipment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively to a team.
Willingness and ability to work in a production setting that requires out-of-position welding and frequent changes in job assignments.
Skills & Qualifications
6G welding certifications, particularly for pipe or pressure-related applications.
Experience working with pressure vessels or pressure-rated weldments.
Vocational schooling or formal training in welding, fabrication, or a related technical field.
Prior experience in a production welding environment that operates with a job shop mindset, handling a wide variety of projects and configurations.
