Position SummaryUnder the supervision of the County Treasurer, the Bookkeeper is a technical position responsible for maintaining accurate records of all accounting transactions and overall financial results of Ford County operations. This position records revenues and disbursements, preparing distribution for taxes and disbursing funds.
Essential Functions- Post and balance funds from Daily Statements;
- Balance all monies received in and paid out of the office;
- Order funds to disbursed to taxing districts;
- Balance bank accounts;
- Prepare fiscal year-end reports to the cities and school districts within Ford County;
- Prepare budget estimates for taxing entities;
- Monitor fund balances for budget law compliance;
- Prepare daily deposits and deliver them to the proper financial institution;
- Accurately processes State distributions;
- Distribute change orders to Department Clerks;
- Report payroll withholding to the State of Kansas;
- Perform consolidation of Commercial and Motor Vehicle accounts;
- Prepare quarterly reports for publication;
- Remit taxes and fees to various entities as necessary.
- Answer citizen questions and concerns;
- Other related duties as necessary or required.
- Must be 18 years of age;
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.;
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and health assessment;
- Pass a criminal background check;
- Possess and maintain a valid Kansas Driver’s License.
More than three years of experience in governmental accounting, financial reporting, office management or related field. A college degree or credits may be substituted for work experience. The employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills after one year in the position.
EducationHigh School diploma or equivalent is required. Some college credit preferred. MOVRS-ATMM training by the State of Kansas within one year of employment in this position.
SkillsThorough knowledge of mathematics and principles of accounting. The ability to operate a personal computer, multi-line telephone, copy machine, calculator and other related office machines. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Problem SolvingProblem solving exists in this position. Recognizing and correcting accounting and tax computations errors.
Decision MakingDecision‑making is required in this position.
AccountabilityEmployee is not responsible for budgetary control of the department but may participate in the annual budget process.
SupervisionThis position works within a parameter of established procedures with minimal direct supervision. Job assignments are occasionally reviewed by a supervisor. The position does not have supervisory responsibilities over personnel but does supervise procedures.
Personal RelationsFrequent contact with other county departments and the general public requiring the ability to communicate and relate in a positive and effective manner.
Working ConditionsPosition is subject to potentially stressful situations. Rare adverse weather exposure may be possible when making bank deposits.
