Position: Utility Worker I - Water

JOB SUMMARY

The objective of the Maintenance Worker I is to be responsible for all labor job activities but not limited to repair and maintenance of all water and sewer systems within the City of Dodge City;
To ensure a trouble-free water and sewer system;
Other duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties described below are indicative of what the Utility Worker I may be asked to perform; other duties may be assigned:

  • Performs manual labor in the repair, maintenance and minor construction of water systems;
    Repair water lines, rod sewers, etc.
  • Install, maintain, and flush fire hydrants.
  • Install new services, meters, lids, etc.
  • Maintain grounds at water towers.
  • Maintain chemicals in water system.
  • Keep and maintain accurate records of work through a prescribed record keeping system.
  • Clean and maintain equipment.
  • Cross-train in other areas of the Public Works Department as appropriate. Assist in other departments when needed.
  • Reads meters.
  • Responds to emergency call ins after hours.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required at the time of hire or for the continuation of employment.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of one (1) year of construction and maintenance experience using hand tools.
  • A valid Kansas motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Must obtain a CDL, Class B Kansas motor vehicle operator’s license within 6 months of hire.
  • Must obtain a Class I Water/Wastewater Kansas State certification within 24 months of hire.
