The Pottery Designer & Ceramist is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and creating ceramic pieces that combine both aesthetic appeal and functional utility. This role involves working with various types of clay, glazes, and ceramic techniques to produce original pottery and ceramic art. The ideal candidate will have a strong artistic vision, technical skills, and an understanding of contemporary ceramic practices.

Job Description:

  • Design and Creation: Develop original designs for pottery and ceramic pieces. Utilize wheel throwing, hand-building, and sculpting techniques to create ceramic works. Experiment with different types of clays, glazes, and firing processes.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Operate and maintain pottery wheels, kilns, and other ceramic equipment. Mix and apply glazes, stains, and other decorative elements. Perform glazing and firing processes to achieve desired finishes.
  • Product Development: Collaborate with the design team to develop new product lines. Prototype and refine designs based on feedback and testing. Ensure consistency and quality in all ceramic pieces produced.
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished products for defects and ensure they meet quality standards. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the ceramic production process.
  • Teaching and

    Collaboration:

    Conduct workshops and provide training to junior staff or students in ceramic techniques. Collaborate with other artists, designers, and departments on joint projects.
  • Studio Management: Maintain a clean and organized workspace. Manage inventory of materials and supplies. Ensure all safety protocols are followed in the studio.
  • Exhibition and Sales: Prepare and display ceramic works for exhibitions and sales. Participate in art shows, fairs, and gallery events. Interact with customers and collectors, providing information about the pieces and the creative process.
