Position: QNB3373 - Assistant Vice President - Climate Risk

Summary

The role supports the Bank’s climate risk and financed emissions efforts by enhancing Scope 3 methodologies, developing and tracking sector‑specific pathways and climate targets. The role also contributes to scenario analysis, internal reporting, external disclosures, and the management of physical, transition, and nature‑related risks, ensuring compliance with climate risk regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure Climate Risk governance and practices support the Group’s overall ratings and reputation.
  • Compute and improve Scope 3 financed emissions methodologies, develop, and monitor sector‑specific pathways with interim targets.
  • Provide executional support for climate scenario analysis, interpreting and communicating key findings, and contributing to external climate‑risk related disclosures.
  • Support and execute activities related to the identification, evaluation, and mitigation of physical and transition climate and nature risks.
  • Implement KPIs and best practices for oversight of financial risks stemming from climate and nature drivers.
  • Promote cost‑consciousness, efficiency, and productivity to minimise costs, avoid waste, and optimise benefits for the bank.
  • Assist the Board in identifying emerging scenarios and communicating related risk impacts.
  • Provide executional support for international entities and branches to align with Group‑prescribed risk‑management frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure risk processes are well documented and policies support sound risk‑taking activities.
  • Build relationships across departments to integrate climate and nature considerations into relevant business aspects.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for the financial risk implications of climate and nature risk across the Group.
  • Liaise with stakeholders across risk disciplines, maintain activities per SLAs, and achieve improved turnaround times.
  • Provide accurate data to auditors, compliance, financial control, and risk when required.
  • Support development and implementation of a framework for measuring, monitoring, and managing financial risk from climate and nature aspects in line with regulatory expectations.
  • Draft governance materials and risk framework documentation.
  • Coordinate integration of climate and nature risk into core governance frameworks such as portfolio analysis, risk appetite, and ICAAP.
  • Partner with risk management teams to enhance portfolio analysis capabilities.
  • Review outputs of stress testing and scoring tools, engage with credit approvers on actions for high‑risk customers.
  • Provide risk input into sustainability and climate risk disclosures (IFRS S1/S2).
  • Develop expertise in climate drivers, regulatory responses, and emerging measurement practices.
  • Operate under the Three Lines of Defence principle and maintain professional standards in compliance, risk reporting, and confidentiality.
  • Maintain highest data‑protection and confidentiality standards for commercially sensitive information.
  • Complete mandatory training and attend required seminars.
  • Attend to any other ad‑hoc duties as requested by management.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • University graduate in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or related field (Master’s preferred). Relevant professional certifications (e.g., GARP Sustainability and Climate Risk) are an advantage.
  • At least 10 years of relevant banking experience, preferably within a highly rated international bank, in a managerial capacity.
  • Direct experience with developing, deploying, and enhancing climate and nature risk measurement and management frameworks, including net‑zero experience.
