Troubleshooting and Repairs
Diagnosing mechanical problems, faults and malfunctions in mechanical equipment and systems using diagnostic tools, equipment manuals and technical documentation to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and implementing effective solutions to restore functionality and minimize downtime. Communicate equipment problems or breakdown information via direct supervisor to technical maintenance support team.
Equipment Maintenance & OperationsMaintaining the reliability and integrity of rig mechanical equipment and systems including drilling systems, mechanical systems and safety systems. Overseeing the maintenance, repair and servicing of mechanical equipment on the rig including but not limited to engines, generators, pumps, compressors, cranes and hydraulic systems to ensure optimal performance. Maintain and repair power plants and monitor power distribution to ensure power is always available.
Verification and inspection of third‑party equipment and installations. Ensure new equipment installations on the drilling unit are managed by an MOC Synergi case where appropriate by highlighting the potential need to RMS and OIM. Conducting functional and commissioning tests and inspections to verify the proper operation of newly installed equipment as per regulatory and company standards outlined in MOC before it is put into service.
Communicate with and consult the technical maintenance support team to their work areas where repairs are necessary. Understands and utilizes the Maintenance System for tracking, monitoring and managing the maintenance and performance of equipment within the rig. Ensures the proper and on time implementation of the mechanical preventive maintenance plans with proper documentation to address potential issues before they escalate.
Communicates to RMS and OIM when maintenance access time is not adequate to perform the tasks fully.
Plan and coordinate with the OIM RMS and other departments to secure equipment and perform safety inspections prior to any operations or major activity such as rig moves, running and retrieving BOP. Ensuring that the appropriate mechanical requirements of the statutory and regulatory bodies including the classification society are adhered to and records maintained. Maintain inventory of spare parts, consumables and supplies for mechanical equipment ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.
Coordinating with procurement and logistics teams to procure spare parts and replacement components as needed ensuring timely delivery availability and compliance with the class and certification requirements.
Carries out related duties to prepare the rig for towing and ensure all mechanical equipment is correctly secured by the mechanical crew maintaining the integrity and reliability of the mechanical systems and equipment throughout prior to the rig move.
Client ManagementPromote and maintain an effective working relationship with other departments, third-party personnel and Client Representatives. Responds to client requests and needs concerning materials, equipment and personnel after getting adequate management approval.
Reporting and DocumentationMaintains proper logs and records of all mechanical maintenance activities, equipment inspections and repairs in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. Prepare accurate and timely reports including daily equipment status reports, incident reports, job safety analysis for hazardous activities. Ensure the permit to work and isolation systems are followed and applied. Supply information to assist in the development of maintenance and repair budget.
PeopleManagement & Development
Provide clear instructions to their team regarding their duties, responsibilities and any necessary safety precautions prior to commencing work. Mentor develop and train their team to ensure safe and effective operations. Identifies opportunities for skill and career advancement works to support the professional growth of their team. Ensure their team receives the necessary required training to perform their duties safely and effectively through on-the-job training and participation in safety drills and exercises.
Support, promote and actively participate in ADESs Competency Assurance Program for their team. Evaluates the performance of their team on constant and fair feedback basis. Identify areas for improvement. Drive ADVANCE process to formalize a performance management culture.
- Education & Experience Formal training as mechanic in the form of a multi-year apprenticeship or training program is preferred. Time served in the oil field as mechanic with relevant training certificates and references may be accepted in place of apprenticeship. Minimum five (5) years of working experience in the mechanical field in drilling and workover operations and have demonstrable supervisory skills.
