Responsibilities
Troubleshooting & Repairs
Diagnosing failures and malfunctions in electrical equipment and systems utilizing diagnostic tools, equipment manuals, and technical documentation to troubleshoot complex issues and implementing effective solutions to restore functionality and minimize downtime. Study and understand different electrical schematics and logic diagrams to gather data from instruments, interpret past and present performance to understand trends and ensure problems are solved. Communicate equipment problems or breakdown information via direct supervisor to technical maintenance support team.
Equipment Maintenance & Operations
Maintaining the reliability and integrity of rig power generation and distribution equipment such as generators, engine controls units, SCRs, VFDs, UPSs, transformers, etc. Overseeing the maintenance, repair and servicing of different electrical components and systems on the rig including but not limited to HVAC systems, communication systems, consoles, control panels, DC and AC drilling motors, auxiliaries, pump motors, etc. Verification and inspection of third‑party equipment and installations.
Ensure new equipment installations on the drilling unit are managed by an MOC Synergi case where appropriate, highlighting the potential need to Direct Supervisor and OIM. Conduct power calculations, power factor, insulation and positive relay tests as required to verify proper equipment operation per regulatory and company standards before service. Communicate with and consult the technical maintenance support team for necessary repairs.
Utilize the Maintenance System for tracking, monitoring and managing equipment maintenance and performance. Communicate to RMS and OIM when access to equipment is inadequate to perform tasks fully.
Materials & Equipment
Plan and coordinate with the OIM, RMS and other departments to secure equipment and perform safety inspections prior to operations or major activities such as rig moves, running and retrieving BOP. Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements including classification society, maintain inventory of spare parts, consumables and supplies, coordinate with procurement and logistics to procure spare parts and replacement components, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with class and certification.
Maintain switch rooms, VFD or SCR rooms free of flammable materials and store only with technical personnel; keep insulating mats free of grease and dirt; provide accessible electric shock recovery kits.
Rig Move
Prepare electrical equipment for rig towing, ensuring all equipment is ready and maintaining integrity and reliability of systems prior to, during and after the rig move.
Client Management
Promote and maintain effective working relationships with other departments, third‑party personnel and client representatives. Respond to client requests regarding materials, equipment and personnel after obtaining management approval.
Reporting & Documentation
Maintain logs and records of all electrical maintenance activities, inspections and repairs per company procedures and regulatory requirements. Prepare accurate, timely reports including daily equipment status, incident reports and job safety analysis for hazardous activities. Ensure permit to work and isolation systems are followed and applied. Provide information to assist in maintenance and repair budget development.
People Management & Development
Provide clear instructions to the team regarding duties, responsibilities and safety precautions. Mentor and develop the team to ensure safe, effective operations, identify skill and career advancement opportunities, and support professional growth. Ensure the team receives required training through on‑the‑job training, safety drills, and exercises. Promote participation in ADES Competency Assurance Program and evaluate performance with fair feedback to identify improvement areas and drive the ADVENT process to formalize a performance‑management culture.
Education& Experience
• Formal training as an electrician in the form of a multi‑year apprenticeship / training program is required.
• Minimum five (5) years of working experience in the electrical field in drilling and workover operations with demonstrable supervisory skills.
• Preferred to have working experience on offshore rigs.
• Fluent in English (spoken & written).
• PC literate in Microsoft Office.
• Situation awareness, communication, teamwork, detail‑oriented, problem solving.
• Regularly climbing stairs and ladders.
• Regularly bending, twisting, and standing.
• Ability to work outdoors under extreme weather conditions (noise, humidity, cold, heat).
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Ability to work day or night shift with a minimum 12‑hour shift.
