Main duties of the job
Support NHS Property Services in delivering building services maintenance and repairs across the NHS to ensure buildings are maintained to the highest standards and provide a safe and secure environment for visitors, customers, and employees.
- Ensure compliance with all processes, procedures and policies, including Health & Safety Policy, HTMs and SFG
20. - Undertake routine planned and reactive maintenance service as instructed by the Team Leader, maintaining operational standards at all times.
- Support minor works such as joinery, painting and decoration, general building works, ground works and general plumbing.
- Maintain effective site log books at all NHS premises, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
- Assist the Projects/Construction team and Team Leader in delivering minor capital works.
- Complete suitable risk assessments prior to undertaking works and work as per instructions within any relevant permit or work plan.
- Understand principles of fire risk assessment and relevant workplace precautions.

Jobresponsibilities
As a Maintenance Operative (Fabric) you will deliver planned and reactive fabric maintenance services across NHS properties throughout South Yorkshire. Working on a mobile basis you will undertake carpentry, joinery and general building maintenance activities, traveling as required.
- Deliver planned and reactive fabric maintenance services.
- Carry out carpentry, joinery and general building fabric repairs.
- Undertake minor repairs, installations and maintenance tasks.
- Diagnose and rectify faults within building fabric and associated components.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with NHS Property Services procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete relevant documentation.
- Travel between sites across South Yorkshire as required.
- Report incidents, hazards, faulty equipment or maintenance issues using agreed processes.
- Handle routine tasks and social interactions within a work environment.
- 37.5 hours per week.
- Monday‑Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
- NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry & Joinery (minimum requirement).
- Experience with in a fabric maintenance, carpentry, joinery or building maintenance environment.
- Multi‑skilled maintenance experience.
- Full UK driving licence (required for mobile work).
- Salary starts from £30,000 per annum plus on‑call allowance.
- 27 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays.

- NVQ Level 2 or higher (BTEC/City & Guilds or equivalent).
- Formal apprenticeship or craft‑trained equivalent.

- Previous experience working within a buildings maintenance environment.
- Experience undertaking minor works and repairs.
- Experience working within the requirements of method statements or permit to work.
- Experience maintaining services to SFG
