Rail Plant Fitter Doncaster£18.61 ph + OT x1.5 & x2
If you can strip a hydraulic system, chase an electrical fault, and get a 360 excavator back on the road without breaking a sweat, we want to hear from you today.
Alecto Recruitment is working exclusively with a leading rail and civil engineering plant specialist to find an experienced Plant Fitter for their busy Doncaster workshop. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in their work, wants variety in their day, and is ready to build a long-term career with a company that invests in its people.
What’s in it for you?- £37,741.08 per year (£18.61 per hour, 39 hours/week, Monday-Friday)
- Overtime paid at 1.5x, rising to 2x on Sundays
- Company van and fuel card provided
- Genuine training opportunities - including the chance to train on Plasser tamping machines
- Varied work across the workshop and live rail/civils sites
- A stable, respected employer in a safety-critical industry
This isn’t a role where you’ll be doing the same thing every day. You’ll be based in the Doncaster workshop but regularly sent out to site to service and repair plant in the field, including:
- Daily maintenance: oiling, greasing, and minor repairs
- Fault finding across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Loading, unloading and assisting with transport arrangements for plant
- Pre-site visits to assess suitability of loading/unloading locations
- Occasional on-call cover and emergency relief support
- Operating plant as required, once trained
- Keeping your van, tools and equipment looking the part
- Staying on top of the paperwork that comes with the job
Some site work will mean working away from Doncaster, so you’ll need to be happy to travel when the job requires it.
What we’re looking for- A relevant trade qualification, completed apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline
- Solid working knowledge of pneumatics, electronics, hydraulics and mechanical systems
- Proven experience maintaining 360 excavators, trailers and similar plant
- The ability to properly diagnose mechanical and electrical failures, not just patch and hope
- A genuine eye for detail and pride in doing the job right
- Experience prioritising workload and making the best use of tools, time and people
- A solid grounding in safe working practices within a safety-critical environment
- Strong communication skills and a practical, problem-solving mindset
- Flexibility, this role will evolve, and so should you
This is a genuine opportunity to join a well-established name in rail and civil engineering plant, with pay, overtime and benefits that reflect the skill this job demands.
