Are you an experienced and confident people manager with a strong background in housing repairs? This is an opportunity to lead a team of repairs operatives and play a key role in delivering a responsive, high-quality service for customers.
St Leger Homes is an award-winning, customer-focused social housing provider managing more than 20,000 homes on behalf of the City of Doncaster Council. We are looking for a proactive Team Leader who can set clear expectations, support colleagues and turn operational priorities into well-managed daily delivery.
Reporting to the Responsive Repairs Service Manager, you will manage a multi-trade team of repairs operatives and work closely with the Planning Team to ensure workloads are effectively planned, resources are used efficiently and repairs are completed safely, to the required standard and right first time wherever possible.
You will help coordinate a cost-effective and customer-focused responsive repairs service, maintaining high levels of productivity, quality and performance while ensuring compliance with organisational policies, safe systems of work and relevant health and safety requirements.
- Provide visible, supportive leadership to a multi-trade repairs team, setting clear objectives, standards and deliverables.
- Monitor daily performance, productivity, job progress, quality, costs and completion information, taking timely action where performance is off track.
- Maximise first time completion by ensuring the correct trade and resources are allocated, along with materials, tools and specialist support where required.
- Coach and develop employees through regular communication, feedback, learning and development, attendance management and performance management.
- Investigate service complaints, conduct or capability matters and enquiries relating to the team, ensuring learning and required actions are completed.
- Work collaboratively with the Planning Team to match jobs, priorities, appointments and trade resources, creating efficient and achievable planned days.
- Ensure repair records, job documentation and operational data are completed accurately and on time so activity can be allocated, monitored and reported.
- Liaise professionally with customers, colleagues, contractors and suppliers to resolve issues, improve service delivery and achieve value for money.
- Support recruitment, workforce planning, vehicle and stock controls, overtime and call-out administration, and the development of policies and procedures.
- Promote safeguarding responsibilities and demonstrate St Leger Homes' values and behaviours in day-to-day leadership.
You will be a calm, organised and credible leader who can balance customer needs, employee support, operational pressures and performance expectations. You will be comfortable making decisions, resolving problems and working collaboratively across the service.
- A relevant trade qualification to at least NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds equivalent, or a Level 2 trade qualification together with a minimum CITB Level 3 Occupational Work Supervision qualification.
- IOSH Managing Safely in Construction, an equivalent qualification, or a commitment to complete the required training within six months of appointment.
- Experience of managing employees in a construction, housing repairs or maintenance environment involving multi-trade work.
- Sound knowledge of construction practices, housing repairs legislation, health and safety standards and lone-working requirements.
- Experience of improving workforce productivity, managing competing priorities and delivering value for money.
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and accurate written records.
- Confidence using IT systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, to monitor work and support performance reporting.
- A driving licence and access to a vehicle. Reasonable adjustments will be considered for disabled applicants where practicable.
