Position Summary

The Library Director/Librarian manages the daily operations of the Donna Public Library and

provides professional library services. This position oversees staff, programs, budgeting, policies, collections, grants, reporting, and community partnerships. It also assists patrons with research, technology, and access to library resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise all library operations and staff.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement library policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate staff schedules, training and performance evaluations.
  • Perform and oversee professional library services, including reference assistance, collection development, cataloging, classification, and processing of materials.
  • Plan and coordinate library programs, events, and community outreach activities.
  • Develop public relations efforts to promote the library’s collections, services, and programs.
  • Prepare reports, statistics, grant applications, presentations, agendas, and require state filings.
  • Prepare the proposed annual budget, monitor expenditures, and present financial information to local officials.
  • Address patron questions and concerns professionally and courteously.
  • Ensure library facilities and equipment remain clean, organized, safe, and properly maintained.
  • Maintain an inventory of departmental equipment, furniture, and supplies.
  • Protect the confidentiality of patron, library, and personnel records.
  • Establish short-term and long-range goals aligned with the library’s mission and community needs.
  • Review and evaluate library services and programs annually.
  • Collaborate with other libraries, public officials, professionals, citizens, and community organizations.
  • Serve on professional and community committees that support the library and the library profession.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable City policies and state library accreditation requirements.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in library Science or Library and information Science (MLS/MLIS)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of library experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of library management, library science principles, and current trends in the field.
  • Experience with collection development and grant writing is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficient with integrated library systems (ILS), Microsoft Office, and standard office technology.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, and occasionally climb a ladder.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and push loaded book carts.
  • Ability to work on your feet for extended periods.
