At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

The MK2 Crew Lunar Lander team is seeking a
Senior Systems Engineer
to lead cross-functional systems engineering from requirements through verification, integration, and operations. You will drive technical execution across spacecraft subsystems, manage interfaces, and ensure the end‑to‑end vehicle meets performance, safety, and mission objectives. This role is ideal for a systems engineer who thrives in complex, safety‑critical programs and can balance technical depth with systems‑level rigor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead
    spacecraft-level systems engineering
for the MK2 Crew Lunar Lander across the full lifecycle: concept refinement, requirements, design, integration, test, and mission operations.
  • Develop and maintain
    technical requirements
, including allocation to subsystems; own traceability and change control.
  • Own or co‑own the
verification & validation (V&V)approach: verification planning, compliance matrices, test strategy, analysis plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Manage
    interfaces
(mechanical, electrical, fluid, thermal, software, operational) across subsystems and with ground/launch/mission segments; drive ICD development and closure.
  • Drive
    trade studies
and architecture decisions (mass/power/thermal/propellant/safety/reliability), documenting rationale and risk.
  • Lead resolution of technical issues through
    root‑cause, corrective action
, and configuration management; coordinate anomaly review and disposition.
  • Support system safety and mission assurance activities including
    hazard analysis
, FMEA/FTA participation, and operational constraints.
  • Partner with subsystem leads (e.g., structures, propulsion, power, avionics, GNC, thermal, ECLSS, software) to ensure coherent
    end‑to‑end design
    .
  • Support
    integration and test
campaigns: procedure reviews, readiness reviews, test execution support, data review, and requirement closure.
  • Communicate status and technical decisions clearly to program leadership; provide mentorship to early‑career engineers.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering (or related).
  • 7+ years
of relevant experience in spacecraft, launch vehicle, aerospace, or other safety‑critical complex systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with:
Requirements development and management (allocation, traceability, verification), Interface definition and control (ICDs)
System‑level trade studies and technical decision documentation, Integration and test planning/execution support
  • Ability to work effectively across disciplines and communicate clearly (written and verbal).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience on
    crewed spacecraft
    and/or human‑rated systems (safety‑driven design, hazard processes, certification‑style rigor).
  • Familiarity with systems engineering best practices and tools (e.g., DOORS/Jama, Jira, configuration management).
  • Experience with environmental qualification and acceptance testing (thermal‑vac, vibration, EMI/EMC).
  • Experience with reliability/safety analyses (FMEA, FTA, hazard tracking) and operational concept development.
What You'll Bring
  • Strong systems thinking with the ability to dive deep when needed.
  • Bias for action and crisp closure of open technical items.
  • High standards for documentation quality and requirements rigor.
  • Collaborative leadership style and comfort navigating ambiguity.
