Position: City Librarian

Summary of Position

The Librarian supports the City of Doraville’s efforts to provide accessible, high quality library services that enrich the community’s educational, cultural, and informational needs. This position is responsible for planning and delivering a wide range of library programs, assisting patrons with research and technology, managing collection development, and maintaining an inviting and inclusive library environment. The Librarian collaborates with city departments, community organizations, and regional partners to expand resources and promote lifelong learning opportunities for residents of all ages.

This role requires strong customer service skills, a passion for community engagement, and the ability to adapt library services to evolving technologies and user needs. The Librarian plays a key part in fostering an informed, connected, and engaged Doraville community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervises the day-to day-operations of the Doraville Library.
  • Serves as main point of contact with DeKalb County Public Library (DCPL).
  • Participates in DCPL meetings and training opportunities as needed to ensure consistent library experience.
  • Selects library materials (youth and adult) for the branch collection in accordance with DCPL processes, procedures and policies.
  • Develops adult services and youth services goals.
  • Acts as building manager responding to emergencies.
  • Supervises and directs library staff in accordance with City policies and procedures, and evaluates the performance of the subordinate personnel.
  • Analyzes and responds to patron demands for materials and services, and identifies areas of library's collection which need to be enhanced.
  • Effectively communicates with patrons and staff to resolve problems and explain policies and procedures.
  • Completes various administrative duties and maintains appropriate records and forms as necessary.
  • Administers annual City and County material budget and determines distribution of budgeted dollars by category.
  • Manages all patron services, programs and activities.
  • Coordinates with DCPL on technology services and needs for the public and staff.
  • Responsible for approving and maintaining electronic time approval including PTO requests for Library staff.
  • Responsible for organizing and presenting programs for various community groups and organizations.
  • Serves as liaison to the Friends of Doraville Library.
  • Responsible for editing the City's monthly newsletter.
  • Prepares various reports in a timely manner.
  • Exercises discretion in the performance of the work and regularly uses independent judgment.
