The Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation (AOCP) is accepting applications for a full‑time District Courtroom Clerk/Official Court Reporter in the Madison County District Court, 7th Judicial District at Madison, NE. The role reports directly to District Court Judge Ryan Stover and involves verbatim reporting, transcribing court proceedings, hearings, and conferences.

- District Courtroom Clerk – $40,822.75 annually (probation); $41,843.37 annually (after probation)
- Official Court ReporterI – $57,441.71 annually (probation); $58,877.74 annually (after probation)
- Official Court ReporterII – $66,495.95 annually (probation); $68,158.37 annually (after probation)
- Enter case information in DOCKET, an enhancement of JUSTICE.
- Produce real‑time notations of Judge’s decision, record court proceedings, and operate electronic recording equipment.
- Play back sections of recordings, maintain logs, and correlate logged information with recordings.
- Mark and log exhibits, note participants, behavior, session times, and other “audio‑record” details.
- Maintain and store court recordings, supervise witness sign‑in, and manage courtroom supplies.
- For Court Reporters: provide real‑time records for trials, hearings, or conferences, attend proceedings, read back transcripts, transcribe into required formats, certify accuracy, prepare transcripts for appeal or court order, and file within time limits.
- Attend meetings, training, and competency evaluations as required.
District Courtroom Clerk may advance to Official Court Reporter
I. AOCP will provide online education and reimbursement for the required certifications.
Minimum Qualifications
- District Courtroom Clerk – High school graduation (or equivalent) with at least 2 years of courtroom clerk experience. Higher education may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Official Court ReporterI – Professional competence in accordance with Nebraska Supreme Court Rules §1‑204(A)(2) and §1‑204(B) or (C). Certification by the National Court Reporting Association (NCRA), American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT), or an equivalent state court‑reporting certification.
- Official Court ReporterII – Same as I plus certification as Certified Real‑time Reporter (CRR) or Federal Certified Real‑time Reporter (FCRR). All educational credits must be from an accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Legal experience of any kind.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish (preferred but not required).
- Successful completion of on‑the‑job training in JUSTICE within six months of hire.
- Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking in a fast‑paced courtroom setting.
- Use of recording equipment, manual typing and monitoring a proceeding simultaneously.
- Some late hours may be required.
Skills and Abilities
- For Clerk – accurate real‑time typing, knowledge of court procedure, operational knowledge of DOCKET/JUSTICE, and communication skills.
- For Court Reporters – competence with computer‑aided transcription software, legal/technical terminology, secretarial practices, record‑keeping, advanced spelling and grammar, proficiency in word processing, and the ability to produce accurate transcripts.
