POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for assisting with the daily operation of The Early Works Family of Museums, which include Alabama Constitution Hall Park and Early Works Children’s Museum. Costumed historic interpreters/educators share the history of Alabama as it was in the 19th century. Interpreters/educators utilize credible research and resources to curate the guest experience through inclusive and engaging interactions. The primary focus of the historic interpreter/educator is to present and deliver programs to school groups and the public for the assigned location.
The objective is to promote truth through storytelling and interpretation while fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of local, regional, and national history.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Capable of presenting historical narratives that include sensitive topics such as race, gender, slavery, and religion
- Learn historical facts relating to the assigned museum site
- Lead field trips through the museums for schools, the public, and special groups
- Wear costumes or uniforms as required for a specific program or site
- Engage visitors in conversation regarding the museum exhibits
- Ensure that visitors have a memorable and positive experience
- Assist with admissions and gift shop operation as needed
- Assist with preparation of materials for programs and visitor activities
- Assist with set up for special programs, activities, and events
- Maintain a safe and clean museum site for all guests

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Work requires frequent physical effort such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, traversing stairs, and lifting light to moderately heavy objects. Work also requires physical dexterity in the frequent use of hand-eye coordination and manipulative skills using fingers and limbs.
