RN-SIMULATION EDUCATOR (2) (T231945) Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an RN-SIMULATION EDUCATOR. The RN-Simulation Educator plays a vital role in supporting and enhancing simulation-based learning experiences for both undergraduate and graduate nursing students. This position is responsible for supporting the implementation of clinical simulation experiences, contributing to procedural skills training, clinical practice labs, and teaching support across lab experiences. The role works with faculty and other lab personnel to implement planned activities and simulation experiences.

Duties

Duties include setting up appropriate task trainers, manikins, supplies, and other equipment, implementing simulation experiences, skills instruction and coaching. This individual will also support the daily lab operations as needed. The position is onsite and collaborates with other lab personnel to provide learning experiences in clinical skills and simulation to meet faculty and student educational needs. It collaborates with faculty and simulation leadership to design and implement procedural, immersive onsite, and distance simulation experiences aligned with course objectives and standards of best practice.

Responsibilities also encompass preparing simulation environments, including equipment setup, moulage, and scenario programming; facilitating simulation sessions, including pre‑briefing, scenario execution, and structured debriefing using evidence-based methods; evaluating and revising simulation activities based on learner feedback and performance data; supporting faculty in lab-based teaching and clinical skills instruction; coaching students to develop skill mastery and validating student performance according to set guidelines;

assisting procedural simulation with setups, takedown, and monitoring of intensive and other procedural focused experiences; coordinating the setup and efficient breakdown of lab courses; participating in the management of supplies and equipment inventory; maintaining simulation equipment, task trainers, and supplies in collaboration with simulation operations staff; communicating equipment and supply needs for skill and simulation events; facilitating tours for recruiting faculty, prospective students, and high school students;

and participating in faculty development and training related to simulation pedagogy and technology.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nursing and two (2) years of related experience are required. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement. The candidate must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing or another required health professions field. Additional requirements include critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision;

superb organizational skills; proficiency in computer skills; excellent communication skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a complex environment; detail orientation; self‑motivation and the ability to work independently; and the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with staff, faculty, and students in a mature manner while developing effective relationships with team members.
