Job SummaryAAS Fire Science Program Manager, Senior Instructor, and Instructional Coordinator supports the mission and vision of the Anthony J. Rane Center for Leadership by assisting in the design, delivery, and management of Fire & EMS programs. This position focuses on Fire & EMS Programs.
FS Manager, assisted by an Assistant Program Manager, dual‑hats as firefighting Senior Instructor and Instructional Coordinator, while supervising Fire & EMS Programs instructors, coordinating with Alabama Fire College (AFC) for adjunct instructors, testing, and certification. The FS Manager is also responsible for coordinating support for academic pathways related to Fire and EMS careers, and contributes to leadership, character development, and center‑wide programming.
Responsibilities1. Fire & EMS Program Management
- Oversee and supervise all fire and EMS part‑time instructors, including adjunct instructors provided through the Alabama Fire College.
- Support a comprehensive plan to create viable career pathways in EMS and Fire services.
- Develop and implement a progressive plan to increase enrollment and completion rates in the Fire & EMS Programs.
- Collaborate with the Alabama Fire College to expand and enhance Fire/EMS offerings that support local, state, and national Fire & EMS organizations.
- Develop and implement a plan to increase success rates for Fire & EMS training programs, including establishing and tracking pass rates achieved by full‑time, part‑time, and adjunct instructors training our cadets.
- Identify and coordinate Fire & EMS‑related guest speakers.
- Build partnerships with government agencies, nonprofit entities, and industry to strengthen program support.
- Develop recruiting initiatives for potential Fire & EMS cadets in coordination with Enrollment Management.
- Coordinate occasional weekend events designed to stimulate interest in first Fire & EMS careers.
- Identify and coordinate guest speakers who can discuss careers in emergency management fields.
- Manage articulation and transfer agreements and assist in developing academic programs in first responder and emergency management fields in collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer.
- Manage cadet progress and track follow‑on success after program completion. This includes synchronizing and supporting efforts that contribute to their individual success.
- Oversee administrative, maintenance, health, safety, and security needs of all Fire & EMS program resources.
- Maintain inventory, accountability, and proper stewardship of equipment, supplies, and property related to the Fire & EMS training programs.
- Mentor cadets in Fire & EMS programs to prepare them for careers and opportunities in these fields.
- Provide classroom instruction and training as the firefighting Senior Instructor.
- Manage expansion and modification projects related to the MMI First Responder Training Complex.
- Coordinate use of, maintenance of, and management of the MMI First Responder Training Complex.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the Center for Leadership or Commandant of Cadets.
- Supervise one FT Assistant Program Manager (10 month) and adjunct instructors.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Fire Fighter or EMS; experience as a volunteer firefighter/EMS is applicable.
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated experience as a trainer, particularly in training fire and EMS skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, professional conduct, and supervisory experience.
- Minimum two years of program management or equivalent experience.
- Associate’s degree.
- Ability to effectively engage with students, faculty, and staff.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Fire Science background with at least 10 years of practitioner experience. A fire science background is more important than military experience.
