Automation and Controls Engineer (Control Systems Engineering, PLC, HMI, Lean, Six Sigma, AutoCAD, Robotic Platforms, Fanuc Robotics, Cognex Vision Systems) in Phenix City, AL

Responsibilities
  • Maintain safety, product quality, and manufacturing effectiveness through daily troubleshooting and resolution of process difficulties.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of product quality, including understanding manufacturing process capability and development of semi-finish and finish product specifications.
  • Support and promote safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company policies and compliance requirements.
  • Create a manufacturing operations vision that aligns with plant and company goals and core values.
  • Foster regular two-way communication to maximize employee engagement and ensure focus.
  • Help ensure environmental and safety compliance for the facility.
  • Diagnose and solve complex problems; participate in daily management and staff meetings.
  • Complete duties with dedication to safety and environmental stewardship; work with Plant Leadership to achieve business goals.
  • Be familiar with and stay current on corporate standards; propose plans to avoid obsolete equipment; identify opportunities to increase automation efficiency.
  • Drive standardization of parts and systems; document legacy and new systems; support IT and HR/Safety with related needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology; 3+ years in control systems engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated electrical and control system engineering capabilities; ability to provide complex and innovative solutions.
  • Proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI apps (including programming) and communications within enterprise and control networks.
  • Proficiency with VFDs and servo applications.
  • Experience with robotic platforms (ABB, Fanuc, etc.).
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace (arc flash energy and shock hazards).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects; lead electrical/controls engineering on major or complex projects (>$1M).
  • Ability to work with and influence a multi-discipline team; implement plans and execute to milestones.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proactive in improvement opportunities.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems; familiarity with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; interface with all levels of the organization; understand business principles.

  • Lean and Six Sigma experience
  • AutoCAD or Visio
  • ISO or other structured business operating models
  • SAP or other ERP experience
  • High intellectual capacity and tenacity; proven ability to plan, organize and execute projects
