Job DescriptionThe Community Athletic Trainer has responsibilities in the UAB Orthopedic and UAB Sport Medicine departments. This position will provide athletic training services for UAB Orthopedic clinic and UAB Sport Medicine patients in the community under the direction of a designated physician. The Trainer has direct patient contact primarily for the evaluation and treatment of medical and musculoskeletal pathology consistent with the scope and practice of athletic training clinical competencies as defined by Board of Certification and the State of Alabama Athletic Training Affiliated Credentialing Board.
This position will perform many of the outlined tasks with minimal or no supervision in the field and off field. This position has access to and knowledge of confidential medical information regarding patients' medical history; access to this information is crucial in the evaluation and treatment of patients and athletes. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds is required.
Master's Degree in Athletic Training, Physical or Health Education, Exercise Physiology, or a related field, and two (2) years' experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer in an Outreach, Rehab, or Physician Practice setting. Bachelor's Degree and five (5) years' experience may substitute for Master's degree. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds is required.
Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers. Licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Alabama. Current CPR certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
