Job Description Summary
Coordinates and supervises all activities relating to the processing of laboratory specimens(in-patient and out-patient) and phlebotomy activities:
Hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates the performance of specimen processing and phlebotomy staff; prepares, updates and maintains written policies and procedures for all specimen processing activities; ensures that these activities are performed in compliance with all accrediting and regulatory agencies (i.e., CAP, JCAHO, state and federal guidelines). Oversees all activities relating to test charges, patient billing and reporting of results;
collaborates with patient accounting, medical records and information services to ensure the accuracy of patient reports, charges, and bills; coordinates with other section supervisors to ensure that the highest level of quality and customer service is delivered consistently.
Job Description
- BS or BA in medical technology or biological sciences, ASCP preferred
- Associate’s degree , preferably in medical technology and/or MLT (ASCP)
- Equivalent experience that must include the following: 10 years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital setting, with at least five years in a team leader/supervisory role
- Minimum two years operational supervisory experience in a hospital clinical laboratory setting.
- Minimum two years computer experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- MT, MLT or Phlebotomy Certification
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of medical terminology and testing requirements.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and customers.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to train staff effectively and document these activities consistently
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for CAP, Medicare (medical necessity), state, and other accreditation agencies
