- Plan, direct, and oversee personnel, financial, and operational activities of the department
- Review and certify engineering plans
- Provide technical expertise and recommendations

- Manage the departmental budget through expenditure monitoring and financial planning
- Procure and manage inventory, supplies, and equipment

- Maintain and update department policies and procedures
- Investigate complaints and assist customers with concerns
- Conduct internal and external public relations activities, including media appearances, community events, board and committee service, and commission meetings
- Provide engineering expertise to permit holders, homeowners, and the general public
- Review permits, recommend engineering plans, and testify in court to ensure legal compliance
- Master's degree in environmental health sciences, natural sciences, engineering, or public health sciences
- Experience supervising staff, including assigning work, monitoring progress, providing feedback or training, conducting performance appraisals, and administering discipline
- Experience developing and maintaining departmental budgets
- Experience obtaining and maintaining state or federal grants
- Experience with strategic planning in a government, public health, or healthcare setting
- Driver's license
Demonstrates expertise in managing departmental operations, including budget development, strategic planning, and personnel supervision. Provides engineering and technical guidance while ensuring compliance with legal standards and effective public relations.
