Summary of Duties
Registered Nurse – RN will be responsible for providing direct care to adult and geriatric patients. Specializes in delivering safe, efficient, and therapeutically effective nursing care, responsive to each patient’s disease or disorder. Functions as an integral part of the staff in the delivery of a coordinated plan of therapeutic care to the hospital’s patients.
Essential Job Functions- Formulate a plan of care or follow established patient care protocols, paying attention to physical, psychosocial, educational, and discharge needs of the patient/family.
- Perform admission assessment and document findings on the appropriate record.
- Initiate individual plan of care and discharge planning on admission, modify the plan of care according to changes in patient condition, and participate in weekly patient care conferences to plan multidisciplinary patient care.
- Explain nursing interventions and provide appropriate education to the patient and/or responsible person according to their level of comprehension, documenting on the appropriate record.
- Provide patient care discharge instruction to the patient and/or responsible person consistent with their level of comprehension, documenting on the appropriate record.
- Perform basic nursing skills.
- Perform specialized nursing skills, including but not limited to managing ET tube, ABGs/venipuncture, central line care, pressor drip monitoring, and 12‑lead EKG.
- Operate highly technical electronic life‑support equipment, including monitoring equipment, defibrillator, and ventilators.
- Respond immediately to life‑threatening situations and follow the appropriate algorithm to sustain life, according to established protocols.
- Manage central venous catheters/PICC lines.
- Provide rehabilitative care according to standards.
- Analyze physical and/or psychological changes, implement appropriate interventions, and notify the appropriate person(s).
- Complete patient‑care assignments.
- Answer the communication system and telephone promptly, and assist or refer to the appropriate person.
- Transcribe physician orders and complete hospital forms accurately.
- Document administration of medications.
- Explain nursing interventions to health team members through direct interactions.
- Demonstrate or supervise procedures and treatments performed by staff or orientees, documenting appropriately.
- Assist with record keeping and program development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a Registered Nurse – RN license by the State of Alabama.
ExperienceMinimum of two (2) years of critical‑care nursing experience preferred.
Physical Requirements for Essential Job Functions- Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally, 20 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. continuously.
- Ability to walk and stand 80% of an 8‑ to 12‑hour shift.
- Ability to push or pull up to 200 lbs. to position patients, move beds, carts, etc., and aid adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
