Position: TES 4-H Environmental Instructor - Seasonal/Residential

Overview

We are excited to begin the search for a TES 4-H Environmental Instructor at the Alabama 4-H Center, which sits on 264 acres of lush rolling woodlands along the banks of Lay Lake, surrounded by the Cahaba River, Talladega National Forest, Cheaha Wilderness, and Oak Mountain State Park.

The position is located less than 35 miles from Birmingham and offers a range of training and educational opportunities, including 15 days of extensive staff training on all programs, Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid & CPR, and the Alabama Boating Certification Course for fall and spring seasons.

Preference will be shown to applicants interested in making a two‑season or longer commitment. Room will be provided.

Season Commitment
  • Spring:
    Mid February – Mid May
  • Summer:
    End of May – Mid August
  • Fall:
    Mid August – Mid December
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate a wide range of programs, including environmental, outdoor and experiential education such as macroinvertebrate studies, herpetology, canoeing, climbing wall, and challenge course (approximately 85% of time). Provide animal care (10%) and program maintenance and development (4%). General maintenance, grounds, housekeeping, and kitchen duties (1%) are also required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience OR
  • Associate’s degree OR
  • Bachelor’s degree
