Title: QC Scientist
Location: Madison, WI
Pay: $27.00-$32.00/hour
Schedule: Standard Office Hours
Duration: 12-Month Contract
This laboratory role involves performing molecular biology and biochemical assays to support quality control of materials and products. The position includes following SOPs, conducting testing and inspections, maintaining GMP-compliant documentation, and supporting general lab operations. It requires strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Responsibilities- Perform routine and non-routine analytical biochemical and molecular biology assays to support release, characterization, and stability testing of raw materials, production intermediates, and finished products
- Follow established protocols and SOPs to evaluate raw materials and components for quality control acceptability
- Execute daily assignments in accordance with written procedures and SOPs
- Assist with maintenance of laboratory reagent inventory
- Manage retention sample filing and maintain retention inventory organization
- Troubleshoot instrument and assay issues as needed
- Conduct visual and measurement-based inspections; reject and return non-conforming materials
- Approve in-process production by verifying specifications; communicate required adjustments to supervisors and generate NCRs and change orders when necessary
- Perform incoming inspections in a timely manner, including sample analysis, batch record review, historical trend analysis, and documentation of findings
- Maintain accurate and compliant documentation in accordance with GMP standards
- Adhere strictly to written procedures and laboratory protocols
- Demonstrate flexibility with scheduling as required
- Strong work ethic with self-motivation and the ability to take initiative
- Excellent organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Basic communication skills with the ability to exchange routine work-related information internally and externally
- Adaptability to shifting priorities and ability to meet deadlines
- Fundamental molecular biology laboratory skills (e.g., pipetting, PCR, gel electrophoresis)
- Experience with DNA/RNA sample preparation, sequencing, qPCR, automation/robotics, or Illumina platforms is preferred
- Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation is an advantage
- Ability to follow work instructions and perform assays with minimal supervision after training
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Working knowledge of GMP documentation practices (required)
- Demonstrated precision and accuracy in laboratory work (required)
