Field Service Engineer
Field Service Engineers spend the majority of their time in the field or at a customer site troubleshooting equipment problems. The role requires in-depth knowledge of system wiring, sensing technology, and regulatory compliance. Self‑starter, independent, and able to adhere to schedules, follow company processes, manage customer expectations, and quickly repair/troubleshoot system problems in the field.
LocationAnywhere in Mississippi or Alabama
Business LineThis role directly supports our Weather business and provides field maintenance to Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), Automated Weather Observations Systems (AWOS), Control Tower and NAVAIDS, and Road/Runway Weather Information Systems (RWIS).
Key Responsibilities- Managing a customer portfolio.
- Providing routine maintenance checks on a schedule and within regulatory compliance (FAA, DOT, etc.).
- Providing timely and detailed site reports to central office following all customer visits.
- Using company RM3 monitor tools to manage customer outages/uptime of systems.
- Providing on‑site installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks.
- Diagnosing errors or technical problems and determining proper solutions.
- Responding to customer system outages via field calls.
- Managing inventory of company‑owned spare parts.
- Managing monthly expense reporting.
- Maintaining company‑owned vehicle—routine maintenance, brake checks, oil changes as needed.
- Following all company procedures and protocols.
- Five years of Field Service experience.
- Able to drive up to 8 hours per day.
- Able to travel 75% of the time.
- Lift up to 50–70 pounds.
- Able to climb 30‑foot towers and properly use all safety climbing equipment.
- Strong problem‑solving, troubleshooting, testing, repair, and service technical equipment skills.
- Documented testing procedures and written work in FAA/DOT logbooks.
- Compliance with all regulatory rules and requirements of job site, including OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Work independently on‑site (most of the time the only person on site).
- Replace/install sensors upon failure.
- Communicate field issues or concerns to customer and/or supervisor or central office.
- Properly use test equipment, hand‑held tools, and power tools as needed.
- Properly test power source and voltage.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- ILS Certification.
- Proficient in tower climbing.
- Holder of an FCC license.
