Diesel Mechanic Technician First Shift

Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Experienced Mid‑Level Diesel Technician to support our truck fleet at Ryder in Dothan, AL.

We want the right Maintenance Repair Mechanic to join us at Ryder to work on heavy duty vehicles.

• Hourly Pay: $26.00 per hour
• Certification Bonus of $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter – four times per year
• Schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday, weekends off
• Hours:
  
  First shift 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree, or technical certifications preferred
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance such as oil changes, brake and tire work
• Two or more years of combined classroom training and work experience in required areas preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred
• Must be able to obtain CDL within six months after hire
• Pass a Ryder drug test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification, motor vehicle records check, a road test, and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Perform standard vehicle maintenance
• Perform standard component inspections and repairs
• Perform preventive maintenance
• Diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Identify root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
• Utilize key functions of shop management system and electronic documentation available
• Work in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Perform other support duties as required to support operations; these could include but are not limited to service island support
