Overview
This position works Monday - Friday, 3:00pm - 11:00pm.
The position is responsible for the servicing and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment.
Responsibilities- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance functions, including checking the condition of and operation of batteries, fluids, tires, lights, transmissions, exhaust systems, brakes, etc.
- Changes oil and filters on automobiles, heavy duty trucks, and heavy equipment.
- Removes, repairs, replaces, and balances tires on automobiles, heavy trucks, and heavy equipment.
- Checks fluid levels; changes vehicle and equipment fluid as needed.
- Tests and replaces batteries.
- Maintains records of parts, tires, fluids, and batteries used throughout the day.
- Performs emergency roadside repairs on vehicles as required.
- Maintains shop equipment and assigned tools.
- Delivers vehicles and equipment to the dealer for repairs.
- Maintains the shop and performs housekeeping duties.
- Performs related duties.
- Knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment utilized in the service and maintenance of a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.

The Fleet Service Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GuidelinesGuidelines include manufacturer maintenance manuals, work safety guidelines, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
Complexity/Scope of Work- The work consists of related vehicle and equipment service and maintenance duties. The variety of equipment to be maintained contributes to the complexity of the work.
- The purpose of this position is to participate in the preventative maintenance of city vehicles and equipment. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of safe and well-maintained vehicles for a variety of city operations.
- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city personnel, and vendors.
- Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
- The work is typically performed while standing or walking, with occasional bending, crouching or stooping. The employee may lift and carry objects and use tools or equipment requiring a degree of dexterity. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.,
may be required.

Qualifications- Graduation from a standard senior-high school or GED equivalent, as recognized by the USDE or CHEA, and
- Six (6) months of recent experience servicing automobiles and medium to heavy trucks, including mounting and repairing automotive, truck, and heavy-duty equipment tires.
- Six (6) months of recent experience servicing construction equipment preferred.
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid operator driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- An applicant is subject to background investigations up to and including criminal, credit, past employment, and reference checks.
- Employees are required to submit to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with the City of Dothan policy, including pre-employment and random tests for the duration of employment. (PBA 08/13/12).
- Must meet the City of Dothan's employment physical standard, which includes drug/alcohol testing.
